Terms of Service

Last updated 26 September 2026 · version 2026-09-26

CrewLogger by Rowing Precision. See also the Privacy Policy.

These Terms are the agreement between you and Rowing Precision (“we”, “us”), the trade name of MajorDecibel Inc. They cover CrewLogger at crewlogger.com, the CrewLogger mobile app, the Rowing Precision Control desktop app, and the online features of Rowing Precision devices (together, the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service you accept these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Who we are

Rowing Precision is based in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. The legal entity behind the name is MajorDecibel Inc. Contact: hello@rowingprecision.com.

2. Who can use the Service

3. Your content

Everything you record or upload is yours: workouts, stroke data, GPS tracks, heart rate, erg sessions, audio recordings, video, notes and profile details (“Content”). We claim no ownership of it.

So that the Service can work, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, copy, transmit, process, transcode, analyse and display your Content, to make technical derivatives of it such as waveforms, summaries and matched sessions, and to show it to the people you choose to share it with. This licence lasts while your Content is on the Service and for as long afterwards as we need to keep backups, meet legal obligations, or continue any aggregated use described in section 4.

You are responsible for your Content and for having the right to record, upload and share it. Audio and video can capture other people, including athletes, coaches and bystanders. You must comply with the recording, consent and privacy laws that apply where you row, obtain any consent those laws require from the people you record, and not upload anything you are not entitled to make or share.

Recording athletes. Coaches, coxswains, clubs and programs that record or upload audio or video of athletes do so within their own coaching relationship and under their own organisation’s athlete-protection (Safe Sport) rules, codes of conduct and consent requirements, not ours. By uploading a recording you confirm that you are entitled to make and hold it; that any consent those rules or the law require from the people shown or heard, or from a parent or guardian of a minor, has been obtained; that it was made in a setting appropriate for coaching and never in a change room, washroom or other private space; and that you will use it only for coaching and review within your program. We are not a party to the coaching relationship and do not supervise it.

If you send us ideas, suggestions or feedback about the Service, we may use them without obligation to you.

4. How we use your data to run and improve the Service

We use your Content and information about how you use the Service to operate it, keep it secure, support you, and make it better. That improvement work includes developing and testing features, tuning device firmware and the algorithms behind the Service (for example stroke detection, session matching and audio processing), fixing defects, and building statistical models of rowing performance.

We do not sell your Content or your personal information, and we do not show advertising.

5. Sharing and visibility

6. Devices, firmware and safety

7. Plans, activation codes and payment

8. Acceptable use

Do not use the Service to break the law, to upload anything you have no right to upload, to harass, threaten or impersonate anyone, to access another person's account or data, to probe, scan or interfere with the Service or its infrastructure, to send automated traffic that overloads it, to reverse engineer, copy or extract our software or data except where the law expressly allows, or to build a competing product from it. Do not upload malware. We can remove Content and suspend or close accounts that break these rules, with or without notice depending on the seriousness of the breach.

Recordings of people. Do not upload or share any recording that sexualises, exploits, demeans, harasses or threatens anyone; any recording made in a change room, washroom or other private space; or any recording of a minor made or used for a purpose other than coaching within a program that has the consents described in section 3. We remove such content, close the account, and report it to the police and to the Canadian Centre for Child Protection (Cybertip.ca) or the equivalent body where you are, as the law requires, and may report it to the relevant sport organisation’s safeguarding office.

Removal requests and reports. If you appear in a recording on the Service, whether or not you have an account, and want it removed; if you are the parent or guardian of a minor who appears; or if you believe content on the Service breaks these rules or puts an athlete at risk, email hello@rowingprecision.com. We act on removal requests from the person recorded, or a parent or guardian of a minor, promptly, and first where safety is at stake. We may remove any content, restrict or close any account, and preserve and disclose records to law enforcement or to a sport organisation’s safeguarding office as the law requires or allows. We do not review recordings before they are stored, and we are not responsible for content until we have been told about it.

9. Our intellectual property

The Service, our apps, our device firmware, and everything that makes them up — the software, algorithms, protocols including CrewNet, analytics, designs, documentation, text, images and video we created, and the names, logos and marks listed at rowingprecision.com/pages/trademarks — are ours or our licensors’. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Service and our apps for their intended purpose while you have an account. Nothing else is granted: no right to copy, modify, reverse engineer, decompile, extract, distribute or commercially exploit any of it except where the law expressly allows, and no right to use our names or marks in connection with any product or service that is not ours or in any way likely to cause confusion. Your Content stays yours (section 3). Buying a device is governed by the store’s Terms & Conditions, which license the firmware on it.

10. Availability and changes

We work to keep the Service available, but it can be interrupted for maintenance, for reasons outside our control, or because something broke. We can change, pause or discontinue any part of the Service, and we may add, change or remove features and limits. Features marked beta or experimental may change or disappear without notice. We will try to give reasonable notice before removing a feature you rely on, but we are not obliged to keep any feature available.

11. Your data and backups

We take regular backups and use reputable hosting, but we are not responsible for lost, corrupted, delayed or unavailable Content, whatever the cause. Keep your own copies of anything important. Devices differ in what they keep: an RPX deletes its local copy of a workout once CrewLogger confirms it received the whole file, so that workout then exists only on the Service until you export it. A CoxPro keeps its recordings until you delete them, and the Control App keeps a library on your computer. It is your responsibility to export or back up anything you cannot afford to lose.

12. Third-party services

The Service relies on third-party providers for hosting, storage, maps, app distribution and payments, and it may link to sites we do not control. We are not responsible for those providers' or sites' availability, content or practices, and their own terms apply to your use of them.

13. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service, our software, and the online features of our devices are provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, conditions and representations, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy of measurements or data, and uninterrupted, secure or error-free operation. Physical products carry their own warranty under the store's terms; nothing in these Terms extends it.

14. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Rowing Precision and MajorDecibel Inc., and their directors, officers, employees, contractors and suppliers, are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for lost data, lost profits, lost revenue, loss of goodwill, injury, or property damage, arising from or connected with the Service, our devices' online features, or your reliance on them, however caused and under any theory of liability, even if we were told such damages were possible.

Our total liability for all claims relating to the Service in any twelve-month period is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve months before the claim and CAD $100.

Some places, including Quebec, the European Union and the United Kingdom, do not allow certain exclusions or limits for consumers, and no jurisdiction allows us to exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for other liability that cannot be excluded by law. Where that is the case, these limits apply only as far as the law permits, and nothing here removes rights you have as a consumer that cannot be waived.

15. Indemnity

You agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless Rowing Precision and MajorDecibel Inc., and their directors, officers, employees and contractors, from claims, losses, liabilities and reasonable costs (including legal fees) arising from your Content, your recording of other people, your use of the Service or our devices, or your breach of these Terms or of any law. This does not apply where the law does not allow it.

16. Closing your account

You can close your account at any time by emailing us or, where the option exists, from your account settings. We can suspend or close your account if you break these Terms, if the law requires it, if your account is used for abuse or fraud, or if we discontinue the Service, and we will tell you why where we reasonably can. After closure we delete your Content as described in the Privacy Policy. Export anything you want to keep first. Sections 3, 4, 9, 11 and 13 to 19 survive closure.

17. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Disputes will be heard exclusively in the courts of Ontario, and you agree to their jurisdiction. If you are a consumer in a place whose law gives you the right to bring a claim where you live or to have your local consumer law apply, you keep that right. Before starting any claim, please contact us; most problems can be sorted out directly.

18. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. Each version carries a date at the top. For material changes we will tell you by email or in the app and ask you to accept the new version before you continue. Continued use after a non-material change means you accept it.

19. General

If part of these Terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies. Our not enforcing a term is not a waiver of it. You may not transfer your account or these Terms to anyone else; we may transfer them to a successor of our business. We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between us about the Service.
